Last week, the Potomac chapter of Meeting Professionals International put on their annual conference, MACE (Mid-Atlantic Conference and Exposition) at the beautiful Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C.
When I first heard about it at my inaugural MPI meeting last summer, I was incredibly excited. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy MACE? Aside from attackers in dark alleyways. This interest led to conversations, which led to cocktails, which led to an RFP for a session, which led to more cocktails, which eventually led to my session, “Hey, Good Crowd! Stand-Up Comedy Techniques for Business Success.”
I was thrilled to have a such a fun, engaged room full of hotel and CVB suppliers with razor-sharp wit. It truly was a great crowd that collaborated to “create the funny” in their businesses during the hour we were together. How do you sell Anaheim? How to you sell the Marriott? How do you convince an association to ditch Miami Beach in favor of Fargo? Humor! And a healthy bribe, at least for the last one.
The session aside, it was a great conference full of enthusiastic attendees, alligator bites (Yes. And they were outstanding), great keynotes, and a first-class board of directors who made it a point of engaging attendees and keeping the energy at a high level for two full days.
Kudos to the PMPI leadership for putting together such a great event that will help move the puck forward in the meetings and events industry. I was honored to be a part of it and look forward to the next one!
